The Five Principles Of Success To Enhance Your Life

The Five Principles Of Success To Enhance Your Life

We all want to experience success in all we do. Humans strive for a satisfying and fulfilling completion of all they begin. The secret is not only in starting, but in maintaining your trajectory, then completing your intended goals.

The following information provides you with some easy to follow directions to achieve success / excellence in any situation.

  1. KNOW YOUR OUTCOME

Do you know what you want? If you do, you will have a vision, a picture in your mind that triggers enthusiasm and excitement about the possibilities you dare to consider.

Sometimes we may ponder on what we do not want, what we want to avoid. This type of thinking raises a different physiological state, and of course, our physiological state produces / triggers our behaviour.

For example, if we focus on ‘not wanting to be here today’ our subconscious mind cannot process the negative form of that thought. Thus, we are focused on ‘being here’ and we become physically agitated as we continue this line of thinking.

Alternatively, we can choose another thought, a more productive thought to create a tolerable, or even a pleasurable experience. For example, we can say to ourselves ‘I make a difference to many people’s lives by being here and doing what I do.’ This may sound like we are placating ourselves, and you’re right, we are placating ourselves. That thought, though, will change your physiology, which replaces the negative, uncomfortable and unresourceful physiology from the first example with a state of calm, which is comfortable and a more resourceful state with more freedom to move into even more directions or our own choosing.

Finally, consider your outcome when developing it. What will it look like / what will you see when you have achieved that outcome? What will it sound like / what will you hear when you have achieved that outcome? What will it smell like / what scents are you aware of when you have achieved that outcome? What will it taste like / what might you be eating or drinking when you have achieved that outcome? What will it feel like in your body, and in your emotions when you have achieved that outcome? As you consider this, you are creating a tangible and a conscious goal that you will now establish a plan in your life to reach.

  1. TAKE ACTION

Having a dream and living your dream are two completely different concepts.

Actions towards a goal are the result of conscious thinking. You are aware of your conscious thoughts. When you act on your conscious thoughts you are in the driver’s seat of your own bus.

When we have subconscious thoughts, and we all do, we are not consciously aware of them. This explains how we sometimes behave in a way that diverts us from our goals. Our subconscious thoughts trigger actions / behaviours we have little conscious awareness of.

Creating a conscious thought contributes to the construction of our intentions. So, make sure you think clearly about the action you intend to take, then take that action!

Florence Nightingale once said ‘I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all be distilled into actions that bring results’. I concur! Do you?

  1. USE YOUR SENSORY ACUITY

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) postulates sensory acuity is the ability to use our senses to make accurate observations about ourselves or others.

That action you took, how is it going? Is it propelling you to the results you want, or are you heading away from the part of the horizon you intended to reach? Being able to monitor the effectiveness of your trajectory is a result of using your sensory acuity.

Sometimes we keep travelling on a path that will not deliver us to our intended goal. We have to be able to identify whether we are on track for our goal, or on a track to an unintended destination. We do this by using our senses. What did you expect your outcomes to look like, to sound like, to smell like, to taste like and / or to feel like? Are you on track … or not?

If you are not on track, it’s time to move into Step 4 (below)

  1. HAVE BEHAVIOURAL FLEXIBILITY

Step 4 goes hand in hand with Step 3.

When we identify the malalignment between our goals and the trajectory we are travelling on, we must try something else to get back on track.Once we do this, we move closer to our desired results. We have to, because we have eliminated one unresourceful / unproductive action and thus we are able to more clearly develop actions that will drive us to our goals.

Albert Einstein‘s definition of insanity is ‘… repeating the same behaviours and expecting a different outcome’.

  1. ADOPT A PHYSIOLOGY OF SUCCESS AND EXCELLENCE

We have all experienced success and / or excellence. This is very useful to our continued success and excellence.Scan your memory for your personal profile of an experience of success and / or excellence you once had.Go to that time right now, when you experienced this success and / or excellence. Any issue you can recall is suitable for this exercise.

  • What does that place look like? What was happening at that time? What can you remember seeing? Where were you? Who were you with?
  • What was said at that time, and what conversations can you recall? What sounds do you recall? Did you hear sounds such as the wind, traffic, background clatter / chatter, alarms, machinery, animals or music?
  • Can you recall any smells, scents or odours? Were you outdoors (garden smells) or indoors (cooking smells)? Do you recall any pleasant or foul odours?
  • Were you involved in any activities where you recall a memory of taste? Were you eating a meal, having a snack, enjoying a beverage? Did you mouth feel fresh or otherwise (e.g., did you eat anything spicy?)
  • How did you feel, exhilarated, peaceful, relieved, excited?

Recall those states whilst you face the current situations you are navigating in your day to day experiences in life.

Previous states of success and / or excellence can be retrieved from our memories and we can experience those states in the present moment / situation. As you recall the states from answering the questions above, your mind creates congruent thoughts of success and / or excellence in your current situation. You create a state of success and / or excellence and your thinking in the present moment leads you into the success and /or excellence you aspire to in your current situation.
