This Perioperative Nursing Conference is intended to provide the opportunity to enhance and develop Nursing skills and knowledge relating to all areas of the perioperative environment. The conference program presents current perioperative topics of significance and explores the latest nursing research to create a conference experience that the perioperative Nurse will find both interesting and relevant.

Perioperative Nursing is practised in an intense, fast-paced environment, and this conference aims to improve Nursing knowledge and healthcare outcomes through expert teaching sessions with a focus on evidence-based practice.

The Presenter: Michelle Stubbsmichelle stubbs

Michelle Stubbs is currently a PhD candidate and Clinical Nurse Educator who has worked as a Registered Nurse for the past 20 years, specialising in Anaesthetics and Recovery. Michelle is a member of ACPAN, the American Society of Post Anaesthesia & Anaesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), and the Australian College of Nursing (ACN). She was also a former committee member of the NSW OTA, Zone 1. Michelle has researched, co-developed and implemented an innovative role within the Perioperative Service at The John Hunter Hospital – “The Surgical Liaison Nurse”. From this project, Michelle has authored articles published in the ACORN Journal and Nursing Review.

Additionally, the project has been accepted onto the ARCHI website and was the winning recipient of Hunter New England’s ‘Empowering Patients’ Award. Michelle is strongly committed to ‘Empowering’ herself through Education and holds a Bachelor in Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Anaesthetics and Recovery Room Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing and a Masters in Nursing, majoring in Education. Current alliance with the Centre of Excellence in Severe Asthma will see Michelle complete her PhD on Targeting Anxiety and Depression in Severe Asthma.

 Conference Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate application of knowledge and understanding of the potential implications during the perioperative phase
  • Develop higher level understanding pertaining to physiological responses to anaesthetics and surgical procedures
  • Conduct analysis pertaining to risks and hazards within the perioperative environment
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised and holistic care of surgical patients

DAY 5: SAT 13 OCT 2018 | ONSHORE KITAVA

Today we are onshore and you can explore at your leisure
Located in Papua New Guinea’s Milne Bay Province, Kitava is a small island off the main Trobiand Island of Kiriwina. Here life remains as it was thousands of years ago with very little external influence. The landing site is surrounded by stunning white sand beaches lined with natural shade-trees, just offshore lies the picture perfect sand atoll Nuratu Island. This truly is a slice of heaven.

 

DAY 6: SUN 14 OCT 2018 | ONSHORE RABAUL | CPD: 3 HRS

DAY 7: MON 15 OCT 2018 | ONSHORE KIRIWINA ISLAND

Located in Papua New Guinea’s Milne Bay Province, Kiriwina is the largest and by far the most populous of the Trobriand Islands, and home to one of the most colourful and fascinating cultures on earth.

 

 

DAY 8: TUE 16 OCT 2018 | ONSHORE THE CONFLICT ISLANDS

Today’s stop gives you the opportunity to experience untouched natural beauty.
Don’t be fooled by the name, this is paradise in the Coral Sea! The Conflict Islands are made up of 21 untouched islands in Papua New Guinea. With spectacular reefs, palm trees and deep blue seas, the Conflict Islands are home an incredible array of marine wildlife.
