CPD Continuing Professional Development changes! The revised Continuing Professional Development ( CPD) Registration Standards come into effect from 1st June 2016. So what does it mean for Nurses in Australia?
Well if you are an Enrolled Nurse, a Registered Nurse or Midwife the revised standard applies to you! Note: The standard applies equally to the Nurses registered with AHPRA who work full time, part-time in paid OR unpaid work. Here are some key points for your information.
- Each Nurse must complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD per registration
- If you have been registered less than 12months, pro rata CPD hours apply
- If your CPD activities are relevant to both the nursing profession and the midwifery profession you may count those activities as evidence for both nursing and midwifery CPD hours
- You should maintain records of your CPD activity for 5 years in case you are audited

Nurse practitioner endorsement, 10 additional hours relating to prescribing and administration of medicines, diagnostic investigations, consultation and referral
|Registered as both an Enrolled Nurse or a Registered Nurse and a Midwife||Complete the amount required for both Nursing and Midwifery
e.g. Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse – 20 hrs
Midwife – 20 hours
|Note: If your CPD is relevant to both the Nursing and Midwifery profession, you may count those activities as evidence for both Nursing and Midwifery CPD hours
Note: of you have scheduled medicines endorsement there is an additional 10 CPD hours
