Improvements from Replacement of Anesthesia Machines

“Low volume, low pressure mechanical ventilation has been shown to decrease mortality in critically ill patients with acute lung injury. The intraoperative use of low tidal volumes has been associated with faster extubation and less reintubation in patients, while larger tidal volumes are associated with increased risk of postoperative organ dysfunction after cardiac surgery.”

The enclosed research article published in the  the BMC Anaesthesiology Journal  focuses on the” impact of anesthetic equipment on clinical practice parameters associated with development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) .” The researchers hypothesized a change in anesthesia machines would be associated with parameters associated with lower rates of ARDS.

The discussion at the conclusion of the paper makes an interesting read!
